The Heart of Northeast is known for being a dog friendly neighborhood. Shop for wine with your dog at Surdyk's, enjoy a meal on Ginger Hop's patio with your furry friend, or bring them along with you for happy hour at Keegan's. It's no surprise that the annual Northeast Dog Parade is one of the neighborhood's most popular and successful events, and 2018 was no different.

Around 400 dogs, dog owners, and dog enthusiasts alike converged on the River Front park on a beautiful Friday evening. There were a number of goodies for both dogs and humans to enjoy, including dog treats, frisbees, reusable grocery bags, and advanced screening movie tickets. Employees from Chuck & Don's moved through the crowd handing out jerky and bone-broth popsicles to eager pups.

The parade took a different route this year, winding up Lourdes Place past Our Lady of Lourdes Church, where there were fresh water bowls set out for the dogs. It then cut through Chute Park, where many a dog decided to to mark their territory. Then the dogs stopped traffic crossing University, went past Lunds & Byerlys and Chuck and Don's, before turning down Hennepin. Diners on the patios of local restaurants received some free entertainment with their meals as the furry parade went by.

Back at the park, the dogs wowed us with their best tricks, impressed us with their costumes, and made everyone chuckle at how well they matched their humans. Prizes provided by Chuck & Don's were awarded to the best in show for each category.

Special thanks to the local police, Bruce and Marshall, who came out to direct traffic and manage the chaos, we couldn't have done it without them. We would also like to thank all of the local businesses that helped make this event happen, especially Chuck and Don's, Kazoo Branding, Froeber Dentistry, and Lunds & Byerlys. We hope to see everyone again next year!
